As of today (January 11), Sam's Club has closed 63 stores across the United States. Not only did the company shut down several locations abruptly, it has now impacted more than 11,000 people.

According to Business Insider, each Sam's Club employs about 175 people and not one person was notified prior to going into work Thursday morning. Others received a company-wide email sent from the CEO, John Furner.

"The remaining stores will stay open for several weeks before closing permanently," Business Insider reported. The closed locations were removed from the Sam's Club website immediately.

It just so happens on the same day, Walmart (owner of Sam's Club), announced they will soon raise hourly wages from $9 to $11. Business Insider also revealed that the retail corporation will also now offer a one-time cash bonus of up to $1,000.
