Kansas City, Mo - Wonderscope, the popular hands-on children's museum, is moving to South Kansas City from Shawnee, Kansas.

Despite the Monday morning rain, a ceremonial groundbreaking took place at the new site.

The current Wonderscope Museum is tucked into a quiet spot in downtown Shawnee, but curators decided on a move across the state line to the newly-remodeled Red Bridge Shopping Center.

The new museum will be bigger and better than before, said Roxanne Hill, director.

"It won't be like we have right now, which is an old school building," Hill said. "This time around we've created the exhibits, we've designed what we want the exhibits' experience to be, and we're building around that."
Actual construction should start this summer on the new Wonderscope, with an eye on a Spring 2019 opening.
