A local woman is sharing her story after she was hit by an SUV on the Country Club Plaza last week.

Police released surveillance photographs last weekend of the white Jeep Grand Cherokee that was involved in the accident.

Sarah Hanson spent four days in the hospital after she was hit while crossing the street.

"I have a really bad concussion and my pelvis was broken in two places," Hanson said. "My left wrist was pretty much shattered -- I had surgery two days after the incident and they put a put a plate and seven screws in."

After the impact the driver, a middle-aged white man, put both hands over his mouth, as if to say, "Oh my gosh," Hanson said of witness accounts. Then he drove off.

Hanson said she maintains a positive attitude, but the recovery will be hard on her children. She has a four-year-old daughter and a year-and-a-half-old son.

"I'm glad to be home to them but it's also a challenge to try to take care of them, in the condition I'm in," Hanson said. "I can't lift them."

Witnesses said Hanson went airborne when the SUV hit her. She said she does not understand why someone would drive away after knowingly hitting a person on the street.

Kansas City Police are asking people to contact them if they know anything about the driver or the vehicle.
