Witnesses: KCK crossing guard who was hit and killed by a car pushed children to safety

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Witnesses say a crossing guard shoved children out of the path of a black sedan before he was fatally struck by the car.

The incident happened around 7:46 a.m. Tuesday near Christ the King Elementary School in the 5400 block of Leavenworth Road. The crossing guard and the driver of the sedan were both rushed to a hospital. The crossing guard shortly after arrival.

Investigators say the sedan was traveling east on Leavenworth Road before it hit the victim. 

The man who died was employed by the city. His name was not immediately released.
