Warsaw, Missouri Police Chief wounded in gunfight with juvenile suspect

Warsaw, MO - The chief of police is expected to recover after being shot in the chest in a confrontation with a juvenile suspect Friday morning.

The incident began Thursday night with the report of a stolen truck, according to a report in the Benton County Enterprise.

Then Friday morning around 9am, Chief Jason Wenberg was engaged with a pursuit that ended near Main and Seminary Streets.

There was an exchange of gunfire - Wenberg was struck in the chest, the 16-year-old suspect was shot in the face.

Wenburg was taken by an ambulance to a hospital and is in recovery.

The teenager was flown to a hospital where according to the Benton County Sheriff's Office, he was listed as being in a stable condition a few hours after the shooting.

Wenberg was named Chief of Police in February 2018.

He graduated from high school in Overland Park.
