The city of Blue Springs sent out 20,000 postcards to remind citizens to be good neighbors when it comes to using fireworks.

Independence Day is less than two weeks away. The city wants people to follow the rules to avoid fires, injuries and noise complaints.

"Be legal, use the right fireworks, shoot them off at the right times," said Bob Muenz, Blue Spring Police Chief. "Use city-approved fireworks only, no bottle rockets, no aerial luminaries."

BSPD will have extra officers on duty leading up to the holiday to handle calls about people who break the rules, Muenz said.

This year the approved times to shoot fireworks are July 1-3 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on July 4 from 10 a.m. to Midnight.
