Update: man killed in Westport restaurant shooting was Lee's Summit police officer

Kansas City, MO - A man shot to death in front of about 200 diners at a Westport restaurant Sunday evening was a Lee's Summit police officer.

The Lee's Summit officer's date was also shot, reportedly in the arm.

The victim is Thomas Orr, 30, a school resource officer at Campbell Middle School, according to the Lee's Summit police department.

Orr tried to intervene in an argument, Kansas City police say, and was innocent bystander.

The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on the patio at Californos Restaurant in the 4100 block of Pennsylvania Ave.

The shooter fled the scene and remained at large.
