The Tonganoxie Police Department announced on its Facebook page that the three missing foster girls have been located and they're safe.

The announcement came hours after the police said they had a person of interest in the case, the girls' mother's former boyfriend. They've since arrested Rico Rangel, 48.

It was a dangerous situation, said Tonganoxie Police Lt. Jarrod Gill.

"Imagine being their age and not having the resources to live correctly," Gill said. "He has no reason to be with these girls."

Police believe the Utter girls, Emily, 15, Aimee, 14 and Christin, 12, willingly walked out of their foster home in August. They had been fostered by their great aunt and great uncle because their parents had lost custody.

The girls were recently spotted around along Van Brunt Blvd. in Kansas City, Missouri.
