Overland Park, KS - Three police officers have resigned during an internal investigation into ticketing practices, says Police Chief Frank Donchez.

Donchez says the officers were writing tickets for seatbelt violations, instead of more serious violations, even though the drivers were wearing sealt belts.

The motive? Donchez isn't sure.

During a Wednesday press conference Donchez noted that officers in the field do have discretion when writing tickets.

This occured beginning in May during a "Click-it-or-Ticket" campaign.

The three officers were not working together in writing the seatbelt tickets, says Donchez, but they were aware of what each of them were doing.

Around 200 tickets have been dismissed from municipal court and refunds have been issued to drivers.
