Southwest CEO in KC, touts single terminal idea for KCI

Can't guarantee more flights with a new terminal

Kansas City, MO - The head of Southwest Airlines addressed the Kansas City Area Development Council, 12 days ahead of a public vote on whether a new single-terminal should be built to replace the existing terminals at Kansas City International Airport.

Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly is backing the single-terminal idea. He said KCI needs major repairs and essentially an overhaul would be good money after bad.

Kelly also said with the current state of KCI, along with the terminal layout, the airline doesn't schedule connecting flights through KC and they route those flights through other airports.

However, Kelly won't guarantee that a new terminal would bring more flights, but with the airlines bearing to cost of a new airport terminal, he said they're willing to take the risk.
