Kids visiting their parents at the Jackson County Jail got a surprise visit from Santa Claus Thursday.

Talking with KMBZ Channel 9 News, Sue Blackburn had several kids with her, including a very young girl.

"This is going to be her first visit with (her father), so she's going to get to tell him all the stuff that she got, too," Blackburn said.

"We know that some of the families affected here at the jail are going through some of the toughest times their families have ever experienced," said Diana Turner, Jackson County Corrections director. "Having a loved one incarcerated is very difficult -- it's particularly hard on children."

Santa's visits to the jail have been taking place for 14 years through a partnership with Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley and Jackson County.
