Royals opening day preps underway at Kauffman Stadium

Baseball is back!

March 28, 2018 - 10:52 am

Kansas City, MO -There's a buzz of activity at Kauffman Stadium from the front office to the field itself for the opening day of baseball in Kansas City.

Windows are being cleaned, railings are being painted. There’s new LED lighting. And there's a new ball field for the Royal's 50th anniversary in Kansas City.

Kansas City Royals head groundskeeper Trevor Vance says the new bluegrass turf will be a great backdrop for the home opener, and a much better playing surface this year.

The previous field was installed in 1994 and was ripped out in October 2017 and the new field installed just before Thanksgiving.

Vance says, weather permitting, the field will be freshly mowed before first pitch on Thursday March 29th.

Parking lots opens at 9 tomorrow.

Gates open at 1:00p.
