Olathe, KS - The Austin's Bar and Grill shooter was sentenced today to life in prison for the murder of Srinivas Kuchibhotla, 32, and the attempted murder of Alok Madasani and Ian Grillot in February 2017.

Adam Purinton, 52, got a 'hard 50' sentence plus 27 years, with a possiblity of parole after serving those 50 years.

Purinton had pled guilty to all charges in February.

Kuchibhotla was a Garmin engineer. His widow, Sunayana Dumala, released a recorded video statement after the sentencing: "Today’s sentencing in the murder of my husband will not bring back my Srinu, but it sends a strong message that hate is never acceptable. I want to thank the District Attorney’s office and the Olathe police for their efforts to bring this man to justice."

Purinton still faces a federal hate crime indictment. Federal prosecutors say Purinton targeted Kuchibhotla and Madasani at the bar because of their race, ethnicity or country of origin.

Witnesses told investigators that Purinton yelled at Kuchibhotla, and Alok Madasani, 32, telling the men to "get out of my country," before opening fire.

It's expected that Purinton will change his not-guilty plea to the hate crime charge on May 21.
