Police identify Marlon Mack, 25, as murder suspect who wounded three KCPD officers

Kansas City, MO - One police officer wounded in an exchange of gunfire with a murder suspect is well enough to leave the hospital, according to Chief Rick Smith.  Two other officers remain hospitalized in a stable condition.

All three were wounded Sunday in seperate gun fights with Marlon Mack, 25.  

Today, Chief Smith identified Mack as the man wanted for the killing of UMKC student Sharath Koppu, 25, during a July 6th robbery at J's Fish and Chicken Market near 54th and Prospect.  Koppu came to the US from India in January to pursue his master's degree.

Mack was killed during a stand-off at a house near 30th and Topping.

The events began just before noon Sunday at the Sky-Vu motel near 40 Highway and Manchester. Two police detectives were wounded in a shootout as they attempted to arrest Mack.

Mack fled in a vehicle with another person.

Officers located the vehicle and took the passenger into custody, and then found Mack as they searched a neighborhood near 30th and Topping.

A third officer was wounded during another exchange of gunfire.
