Wait times could be very long for drivers who choose to use I-470 on the east side of the Kansas City metropolitan area this weekend.

A portion of I-470 will be reduced to one lane in either direction beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, July 27. The closure will effect the area between 39th Street in Independence to the Little Blue River, just south of Highway 40. The work should be finished by 5 a.m. Monday.

MoDOT workers are preparing the pavement for bridge repairs at the I-470/Route 291 and I-70 Interchange, Highway 40, and Little Blue River tentatively scheduled to begin in August. All work is weather permitting.

The weekend repairs are part of the massive I-470 bridge rehabilitation project that is expected to finish by the end of November.

MoDOT is advising drivers to plan ahead and find alternate routes if possible. The construction work is expected to have a major impact on traffic.
