Overland Park Police say a fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend led to an incident in which they shot and injured a suspect early Friday.

Officials received multiple 911 calls around 1 a.m. about the disturbance in the area of West 79th Street and Grant. The female got away from the male, who reportedly began firing shots in the neighborhood.

Responding officers say the man fired several rounds toward them. They returned fire, critically wounding the man.

The two officers involved were not hurt. They are placed on paid administrative leave, which is department policy for officer-involved shootings. The Johnson County Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Team is investigating.
