Overland Park City Council members are considering big repairs for the city's convention center

The Overland Park convention center is 16 years old and engineers say it will need some costly fixes within the next five years, including a new roof.

Monday night the city council will look at a five-year maintenance plan. This year the city will need to replace the cooling tower.

"The cooling tower provides air conditioning and heating to both the convention center and the hotel," said Sean Reilly, Overland Park communications manager.

Reilly says they hope to put off replacing the roof and the escalator for another few years, but they are starting to budget for it. The total cost of repairs is about $5.1 million.
