Overland Park, KS - The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City is set to break ground next week on a $11 million expansion to its existing facilities in Overland Park.

The campus is adjacent to the former Sprint Campus.

The expansion of The J KC (its new nickname) will include gymnasiums, an indoor turf field, a state of the art ceramics studio and expanded art programs.

Jim Sluyter, CEO and president, says the improvements were a logical next step for the center.

"We've been growing a lot," Sluyter said. "A lot of our programs have maxed out on space. Our day camp program, our preschool, our sports and rec programs, pretty much across the board."

You don't have to be Jewish to enjoy the amenities at The J. Sluyter said he hopes the expansion will allow the center to focus on diversity and outreach.

"It works out for everybody, and it's a way of impacting the community and showing that we're a little bit more broad-minded and we are bringing together various different entities for the good of the entire community," Sluyter explained.

Developers hope to have the expansion of The J KC completed by next year and the center will remain open throughout.
