Operation BBQ Relief travels to Houston to serve storm victims, volunteers

August 31, 2017 - 6:43 am

A local organization based in Peculiar, Missouri is in Houston providing hungry storm victims with barbeque, a Kansas City specialty.

Operation BBQ Relief began after the devastating EF-5 tornado tore through Joplin, and since its inception six years ago, has deployed to 34 disasters in 21 states.

The organization is set up now near the Houston flood zone and has already served about 12,000 people in one day.

"This is the time for everybody to come together to help those in need," said Stan Hays, co-founder and chief executive of Operation BBQ Relief.
