KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A major road project will cause some traffic headaches as a seven mile stretch of Interstate-70 will close in both directions between I-435 to the I-470/291 interchange.

The closure begins Friday, September 6 at 10:00pm and will reopen at 5am Monday morning, September 9th.

MoDOT will demolish ramps from southbound I-435 onto eastbound I-70, and from northbound I-435 to westbound I-70. Those ramps will close a day early, on September 5, and will remain closed until 2020.

The eastbound lanes of I-70 will reduce to one lane at Manchester Trafficway, and any traffic that has not already left the roadway will be detoured onto southbound I-435.

Westbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane at the 291/I-470 interchange and will be shifted onto southbound 291. Traffic will also be reduced on southbound 291 to one lane.

Delays are likely to continue beyond the closure as new ramps are constructed.

The full project is set to be completed by December 2020.
