Law enforcement agencies across the country are observing Click It or Ticket Week, a crackdown on drivers and passengers who are not buckled up.

People who receive citations for failing to use seatbelts sometimes voice strong objections, but officers just want people to be safe, said John Lacy, Overland Park Police.

"Down the road, you never know, it could be someone texting and driving or not paying attention to the road, could rearend them," Lacy said. "They could be injured or also be killed."

The fine for failure to wear a seat belt is $30 dollars, according to the Overland Park municipal website. The driver's fine when a child in the vehicle is not properly restrained is $60.
