The Missouri State Highway Patrol has created the Youth Academy Program to attract teens to a career in law enforcement.

The program is for high school juniors and seniors and will be held all day November 4th, at The Mary Kelly Center, 2803 East 51st Street, Kansas City, MO.

MSHP Sgt. Collin Stosberg says he was 10 when he had his first encounter with a trooper, and the strong impression led him to a career with the Highway Patrol.

"We had a flat tire and out of nowhere these two Missouri troopers stopped and rendered assistance," Stosberg recalls. "It was in a blizzard before cellphones."

Stosberg hopes he can make that kind of impression when the Youth Academy begins. "Our goal is to recruit future troopers and this is one way to do that," Stosberg said.

Youngsters who are interested need to submit an application. They can contact Trooper Rich Stewart or call (816) 501-8654.
