Missouri is one of 11 states considering legislation that would prevent companies from taking away consumers "right to repair."

Companies often require customers to sign contracts for electronic devices, automobiles and even farm equipment that prevents the customers from making repairs at home.

"You should be able to get a manual, you should be able to get special tools and other things that you need in order to repair things on your own," said Rep. Tracy McCreery, a Democrat from St. Louis.

McCreery's bill is not expected to make it through the legislature this year, but she said she plans to file it again, with some changes, next session.
