When California's wildfires began to spread out of control, firefighters from across the country, including our region, began packing their equipment for a possible trip out west.

So far no requests for help from California, but Ben Webster, Wildland Fire Program Supervisor with the Missouri Department of Conservation, says they're ready if assistance is needed.

"You're always watching -- you have to pay attention to it, because as a wildland firefighter, we could get thrown into that situation next year, in the same place," said Webster. "It's an ongoing education."

"There's always fire burning in California," Webster said. "If this would have happened two months ago, there's a likelihood we could have folks out there."
