Lenexa PD says man brandished gun inside store

Lenexa, KS - Shortly after 11am Sunday morning, a man was shot and killed inside the Costco at 9350 Marshall Drive, according to police.

During an early afternoon briefing, Lenexa police Captain Wade Borchers told reporters that a man entered the store and had brandished a weapon.

An off-duty police officer who was in the store shopping, confronted the man and then shot and killed him.

Capt. Borchers did not share what type of firearm was brandished, nor revealed what motive may have been behind the man's actions.

No one else was injured during the encounter.

Not long after the shooting occured, Lenexa police shared on its twitter account that it was not an active shooting event:

Multiple police officers from surrounding cities converged on the store to provide mutual aid. The Kansas Highway Patrol was on scene as well, stopping shoppers as they left the parking lot to take witness statements.
