Man charged with forced sodomy is former Gardner Edgerton HS teacher

Todd A. Burd, 45, a former teacher in the Gardner Edgerton School District, has been charged with a two counts of Aggrevated Sodomy by Force and is being held on a $250,000 cash surety bond in Johnson County, Kansas.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, the allegation against Burd stems from an incident in November 2016.

The victim has not been named in the public court documents, but would have been 16 or 17 years old at the time.

Todd Burd was the choir director at Gardner Edgerton High School, and in 2015 was named the district's Secondary Teacher of the Year.

A spokesperson with the Gardner Edgerton School District declined comment, referring KMBZ to the Johnson County Prosecutor's Office.

Kristi Bergeron, with the JOCO prosecutor's office said Burd hadn't worked in the district for some time.
