Kansas City, MO - A major road project is underway for the I-435 and I-70 interchange near the Truman Sports Complex. MoDOT says the project will cause closures and detours for almost two years.

The eastbound I-70 ramp to northbound I-435 and the eastbound I-70 ramp to Manchester Trafficway is expected to be closed through December of this year.

MoDOT engineer Matt Killion says some improvements are aimed at safety, and others are aimed at reducing congestion. He says the partial turbine configuration will be the best fit for the 220,000 drivers that travel the roadway daily.

"With this project we're replacing bridges, we're making safety improvements within the interchange, we're also adding a lane on I-435 through the interchange," Killion said.

Detours will be posted and engineers will be out in the field looking for any adjustments that need to be made.

MoDOT engineers say though you can expect delays to be less than five minutes, they recommend motorists to prepare for extra time on their commute.
