Saint Luke's Health System says a nurse is no longer employed there after a Facebook photo of the woman went viral. Selbi Elliott-Heenan and her date dark makeup on their exposed skin, dressed as Beyonce and Jay-Z.

The story was originally reported on radio station KCUR.

It is important for workers and employers to know and understand what a company's policies are with regard to personal conduct, said Denise Drake, a disputes attorney at the Polsinelli Firm.

"One of the things we always advise our employers to do is to make sure they employe handbook is not stuck in a file cabinet or on a shelf, and then pulled out every once every two or three years, and then you blow the dust off," Drake said.

Drake says employers in Kansas and Missouri are allowed to terminate employees for questionable behavior at work and everywhere else.

Saint Luke's Health System released the following statement:

"On Monday afternoon, Saint Luke’s Health System became aware of a Saint Luke’s East Hospital employee who posted photos on personal social media accounts of her and another individual dressed in blackface for what appears to be a Halloween event. This information was shared with appropriate health system personnel and an investigation was initiated immediately. While it is against Saint Luke’s policy to comment on specific personnel matters, we can confirm that this individual is no longer a Saint Luke’s employee. Saint Luke’s is deeply committed to our culture of diversity and inclusion. It is fundamental to who we are as an organization and we vigorously protect it on behalf of all our patients and employees and expect those who represent us to do the same."
