Kansas City representatives begin picking up leaves and brush this week at homes in the central part of the city south of the river.

Residents only get two chances this fall for curbside pickup. Another pickup is scheduled for the spring. The yard waste will be picked up on regular trash days.

"The leaves must be in paper lawn debris sacks," said Richard Gaskin, engineering section manager. "Plastic bags are not acceptible, and no grass clippings or trash is allowed to be mixed in there."

The city sets a limit of 20 sacks and bundles per household. Each sack must weigh less than 40 pounds. There are a few common mistakes people make when setting out their waste.

"Putting it in plastic bags, that's something that happens," Gaskin said. "Also, sometimes residents will not put the leaves at curbside."

Residents will get a second chance for curbside pickup from Nov. 26 to Nov. 30.

If your collection is missed, call 311 with in 24 hours, Gaskin said.
