The Missouri State Highway Patrol is working with the Kansas City Police Department to increase patrols around Barry Road and Interstate-29, one of the most accident-prone locations in the area.

There were 263 crashes in the Barry Road/I-29 corridor from March 2017 to March 2018, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. The area covers several square miles, including 152 Highway, from Congress to Green Hills Road, and I-29, from 72nd to 112th Streets.

"Some of the commonalities are; following too close, speed is a factor; whether it's exceeding the speed limit or too fast for the conditions, and a big one is failure to yield," said KCPD Capt. Todd Marckx.

The Platte County Sheriff's Office is also participating in the targeted enforcement operation, which starts Monday, May 21, and will continue several months.
