Overland Park, KS - The Shawnee Mission Schools annual Jump Start to Learning program is underway at 20 schools across the district.

About 360 4-year-olds and 5-year-olds are attending.

The soon-to-be kindergarteners are learning things they'll need soon: when and how to raise their hands, how to stand in line, and their ABCs and 123s.

Leigh Anne Neal, Assistant Superintendent of Early Childhood Education for the district says the program started four years ago and has seen some success.

Many of them haven't been in a school setting before, so this is the first chance for them to figure out how to meet those "school expectations".

The Jump Start program is underway now through July 27th.
