Kansas City officials hope Thursday night's sold-out Women's Volleyball Final Four at Sprint Center is the start of better things in the area.

Kathy Nelson with the Kansas City Sports Commission said her organization is working toward getting more NCAA Championships and Final Fours to come to town.

"It's a really big deal to prove our story and prove how great of a fan base we have here," Nelson said.

No. 1 seed Penn State plays Nebraska at 6 p.m. Thursday. The other half of the bracket pits defending national champion Stanford against Florida at 8 p.m.

The championship match is Saturday, 8 p.m. at Sprint Center.

Another successful showing in NCAA sports could eventually help Kansas City attract the NFL draft.
