Kansas City, MO - The KC Metro could have a cold and wet winter, but also warmer weather, according to the Farmer's Almanac.  Kind of like riding a roller coaster.

The Farmer's Almanac has dubbed their forecast for this winter 'the Polar Coaster'.

Sandi Duncan, managing editor, says when her team sat down and looked at this year's forecast, it practically wrote itself.

"As we were looking at the winter weather predictions that come in almost two years in advance, we started seeing what looked like this constant up and down on the thermometer," Duncan said.

Thus, the 'Polar Coaster'.

Duncan says that for the KC Metro, temperatures will fluctuate significantly throughout the winter.

So how does Farmer's Almanac determine a forecast, up to two years in advance?

"The weather forecasting formula actually dates back to 1818," Duncan explained. "That's when our founding editor realized that certain things in the sky as well as different mathematical equations could associate with different weahter patterns."

Duncan said that while in a way, the forecast is written in the stars, but it's a lot more complicated than that.

Maybe, though, not as complicated as this Winter could be if Farmer's Almanac's long-range predictions turn out to be true.
