Almost half of the  Kansas City council wants more spending oversight.

City manager Troy Schulte can spend over a million dollars for construction contracts, and hundreds of thousands for other city purchases. Council member Quinton Lucas has proposed an ordinance that would require big money outlays go before the full council.

He says, "Phoneix, Denver, Charlotte, Portland can get along with limits which are much lower than Kansas City." Lucas added, "I think we have the ability to do so too."

Lucas says it's nothing against Schulte or the way he's doing his job. The proposed ordinance has five co-sponsors. Lucas says it will be heard in committee tomorrow.
