The National Weather Service says the EF-3 tornado that slammed into Jefferson City traveled 32 miles through central Missouri.

The tornado first touched down southwest of Eldon in Miller County Wednesday night, May 22. It proceeded through Cole County and crossed the Missouri River before it expired in Callaway County.

As Jefferson City cleans up from the tornado its residents continue to deal with a historic flood. The city's airport remained under water from the overflowing Missouri River.

Levee district president David Boessen told the Associated Press that flood waters created a breach about 100 yards long after flowing over the top of the earthen structure.
