Jackson County legislators to address jail deficiencies

The Jackson County Legislature is planning to address an audit of the detention facility that has been the site of repeated scandals.
The 21-page document obtained by KMBZ News recommends items CRA Incorporated says are needed immediately.
Those changes include: intercoms in cells, in case of emergencies, improvements to sanitation and new mattresses.
The consultant said there are not enough table top games to keep the inmates occupied.
The report documents what it calls a critical shortage of corrections officers. The report also says recruitment and training are needed.
The Legislature will have to address a glaring issue involving pay. At $12.60 an hour Jackson County corrections officers are among the lowest paid in the region.
