Independence man convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2016 road rage shooting

Independence, MO - Jurors brought back a verdict of involuntary manslaughter against Christopher Taylor, 40, for the shooting death of a woman during an apparent road rage incident in October 2016.

Taylor had been charged with 2nd Degree murder in the shooting death of Whitney Gray.

According to court records Gray, 22, was driving a minivan near Winner Road and Sterling Avenue on October 16, 2016 around 7:30 in the evening.

At the time, witnessess said a road rage altercation spiraled out of control, included someone from the minivan throwing a drink onto the SUV driven by Taylor, who then pulled alongside and fired into the minivan.

Gray was shot in the chest, the passengers - a 16-year-old girl, a 3-year-old boy, and an 8-month-old girl - were not struck. 

Taylor was captured about 700 miles away in South Dakota.

He'll be sentenced Aug. 24, 2018.
