Missouri residents north of Kansas City are preparing for the potential for record flooding.

People in Rockport are already witnessing high water levels. Dawn Brown has been driving to the area to watch the progression of flood waters since she learned that parts of Interstate 29 were closed down up to the Iowa border.

As of Monday, volunteers in St. Joseph had filled more than 100,000 sandbags. Many of the volunteers were recruited through social media posts.

More than 800 showed up with shovels and work clothes.

Sandbags have been covered with tarps to protect them from rain. The Missouri River is expected to crest in the St. Joseph area around 1 p.m. Thursday.
