Hello Bam Bam! Another polar bear coming to Kansas City Zoo

March 29, 2018 - 11:45 am

Kansas City, MO - In April, the Kansas City Zoo will welcome Bam Bam, a 30-year-old polar bear, from the Omaha Zoo.

According to KC Zoo officials, due to changes in the Omaha Zoo's master plans, the Polar Bear Species Survival Plan (SSP) has recommended that Bam Bam be permanently transferred to Kansas City.

She will join Berlin, a 28-year-old female, that's been at the zoo since December 2012.

In 2015, a male bear, Nikita, was transferred from Kansas City to the North Carolina Zoo for breeding.

At 18,000 square feet, the polar bear enclosure at the KC Zoo was built to accommodate up to three bears.

Zoo officials say once Bam Bam arrives, she'll stay behind the scenes to acclimate to her new surroundings.

Then Berlin and Bam Bam will go through a careful introductory process that could include taking turns outdoors.
