A shooting in Westport early Sunday morning raised new concerns about the level of security provided in the entertainment district.

A man fired a pistol into a crowd just before 3 a.m. at Westport Road and Pennsylvania. Two people were struck; their wounds are not considered to be life-threatening.

Police arrested two men. Davonte McCutchen, 24, of Grandview is charged two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action and resisting arrest. Investigators believe McCutchen fired the shots.

Anthony Boykin, 26, is charged with felon in possesion of a firearm. Police believe Boykin dropped a gun while running from Westport Public Safety officers.

The Kansas City council voted in December to privatize Westport sidewalks on weekends, allowing for wanding to keep guns out. But more property owners in the district have to agree to the extra security before it can begin.
