Residents at an Overland Park Senior Living Center are taking gingerbread house building to the next level.

The Residents at Park Meadows Senior Living Center excepted a challenge to compete with 44 other Spectrum Community centers around the country to build the best Gingerbread House Community.

The residents decided to build KC landmarks, like Union Station, the Country Club Plaza, Kauffman Stadium and Arrowhead Stadium, complete with Patrick Mahomes on the Jumbotron, said Daphne Muller, Park Meadows spokeswoman.

"We used a lot of graham crackers, gingerbread, M&M's, fondant, icing, gumdrops, you name it, we threw it on here," Muller said.

Ralph Gagnon helped to lead the construction of the structure with the other residents.

"I used to work as a carpenter, and I like to work with my hands," Gagnon said. "The best thing about it was that it brought all of the people together."

This is the first year of a project that the residents hope will become an annual event. They find out who wins the competition Dec. 21. The living center plans to leave the gingerbread creation on display through Christmas.

"We've laughed and we've snacked, and I think we've had such a good time doing it," Muller said.
