KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Saturday night, in both Kansas and Missouri, news broke that each state now has someone who contracted COVID-19, more widely known as the Coronavirus.

Missouri officials say a St. Louis County woman in her 20s began showing symptoms as she returned home from studying in Italy. She's now staying in her family's house, but her father broke quarantine over the weekend to take a child to a school function.

And in Johnson County officials announced the first confirmed case in Kansas. A woman in her 40s is now isolating herself at home, after seeing her doctor for coronavirus symptoms.

Heath officials said she is complying with doctors orders and has gone to great lengths to limit exposure to others. She'd recently traveled to a Northeast U.S. state, but officials aren't releasing further details.

Both women are doing well, and emergency officials are preparing for the possibility of a more widespread outbreak in Kansas and Missouri.
