Kansas City, MO - With prom and graduation just around the corner, students have a lot of celebrating to do, but too much celebration could land teens in a lot of trouble.

When it comes to minors and drinking, sometimes parents can be part of the problem. When they invite teens to drink in their own home, Officer John Lacey with the Overland Park Police Department says they're giving their child a green light to drink, and most of the time that involves other friends.

"A lot of parents feel that, "If I just take the keys, then that will be significant enough," but we see that sometimes kids have alcohol poising after three to four drinks," says Officer Lacey.

Just one minor in possession arrest could get students kicked off an athletic team, club, or even prevent them from walking at graduation. If you have a college scholarship, one offense could take that away.

Officer Lacey says students are not expert drivers and when you add drugs, alcohol, or medication into the mix, the results could be deadly.
