Blue Springs, MO - A new inclusive playground and Splash pad opens at Burrus Old Mill Park in Blue Springs. Jill Moore, an inclusion specialist for Landscape Structures, who worked with the city to create the play space, says it's really all about providing something for everyone.

"It has all of those different things that entice kids, and allow them to play comfortably, and in their own world, and stay and engage and to get all of those really just rich benefits that play has to offer," says Moore.

Moore understands how important an inclusive play area is. She was born with spina bifida and has spent her life in a chair. She explains that if you ask someone what inclusion means, you'll get 100 different answers, but if you ask about exclusion, it's when you feel left out.

Her memories of playgrounds as a child are more negative than positive. She says, "I remember the playground was always a place where I felt more different than regular. I didn't feel like a kid there. It wasn't a place where I celebrated being a kid. It was a place where I recognized my disability more than any other time in my life."

This playground and splash pad allows children to play more comfortably with seamless transitions and diverse options. The grand opening is June 12, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m with free food, drinks and giveaways. Burrus Old Mill Park is at 112 NW Woods Chapel Rd in Blue Spring.
