A plane hijacked by terrorists at the downtown Kansas City Airport: that was the scenario unfolding at the Charles B Wheeler Downtown Airport on Thursday.

The FBI and Kansas City Police held a joint counter terrorism drill to practice their skills for a situation that would hopefully never happen.

Special Agent in Charge Darrin Jones says they train regularly to make sure they are ready.

"It's a golden opportunity for our tactical people to be able to move around that aircraft, to move through that aircraft, and actually get to see and feel what that environment is like in the unlikely event that they have to respond to a situation," Jones says.

Tactical teams, negotiators and airport personnel were all involved in the training, which was held on a MD83 aircraft on the tarmac.

"There are a lot of moving pieces to these things," Jones says. "The only way to maintain that capability at a very high level is constantly training to keep those capabilities."
