School officials identified Chandan Rajanna, a Shawnee Mission South HS student, as the victim of Sunday's fatal crash near Arrowhead Stadium.

Police spokesman Capt. Lionel Colon said the crash occurred on Interstate 435 near Arrowhead Stadium as Kansas City Chiefs fans were arriving for the team's game.

Colon says an off-duty officer was driving a police van that ran into a vehicle involved in slow traffic lining up to turn into the stadium.

The crash caused a chain reaction involving several cars.

Rajanna was the driver of the first car struck by the police van.

All northbound lanes near Stadium Drive were closed for hours before the Kansas City Chiefs game Sunday night game.

"I just spoke with the chief, and he is shaken, as all of us are," Colon said following the crash.
