For the first time, a panel discussion about Amelia Earhart's disappearance will highlight the annual festival in honor of the famous aviatrix in her hometown of Atchison, Kansas.

The 2018 Amelia Earhart Festival takes place this weekend. Almost a dozen experts will talk about their theories on the disappearance on Saturday.

"If you're a fan of history or mystery, this is the place to be," said Steve Johnson, with Benedictine College. "This one of the enduring mysteries in America, what happened to Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan, and the search continues."

The festival will celebrate the spirit of Amelia Earhart by hosting Pioneer Achievement Award winner Jessica Cox, who will speak at Saturday's afternoon luncheon, said Jacque Pregeon, coordinator.

"(Cox is) best known for becoming the first armless pilot in aviation history," Pregeon said.

Among the exhibits will be Earhart's car, a 1932 Hudson Essex Terraplane.
