A dog found chained to a cinder block on the bank of Longview Lake was left there to drown, animal control officers think.

Park rangers called animal control after finding the dog on the shoreline caked in mud.  "There is no doubt this was intentional," said Tonya Hampton with both Jackson County Animal Control and Great Plains SPCA.

Officer Hampton and the park rangers rescued the dog, and named the dog "Deputy". He is currently recovering at Great Plains SPCA's Independence location.

Anyone with information on Deputy, his situation, or his former owners is urged to call Jackson County Animal Control at 913-475-6164.
