Kansas City, MO - A horse whose dismembered remains were found in a Kansas City park was a family pet, and pregnant.

According to investigators the horse named 'Senaida' belonged to Miguel Valdez and his family.  The mare had been in the care of the family for nine years.

Valdez told a local tv station that breaking the news to his children about what happened was difficult.   He says he's "upset and angry."

The horse was at a friend's farm in Kansas City, Kansas, when it went missing, according to Valdez.

A man playing disc golf found the animal's remains a week ago in a wooded area of Kessler Park in the historic Northeast of KCMO.

Police say the horse appeared to have been field-dressed for its meat.
