NEW YORK (AP) - The Denver Nuggets have selected small forward Michael Porter Jr. out of Missouri with the 14th pick of the NBA draft. Porter played in just three games for the Tigers due to a back injury, which required surgery. He joins a young team with a strong nucleus that has missed the playoffs for five straight seasons.

The first time Porter talked to anyone from the Denver Nuggets was Thursday at the NBA draft.

Porter didn't think there was any need, and neither did the Nuggets. The forward thinks he shook hands with someone from the Nuggets after his pro day workout. He said the first time he spoke to someone from the organization was when he was drafted, either the general manager or the owner -he's not sure who it was.

The Philadelphia 76ers chose Wichita State point guard Landry Shamet at number 26 in the first round. Shamet played high school basketball at Park Hill in Kansas City.

In the second round, the Atlanta Hawks used the 34th overall pick on KU point guard Devonte' Graham.

Jayhawk shooting guard Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk was chosen by the Los Angeles Lakers at number 47.
